About Us

Malite Ihunna Health is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the monumental healthcare challenges in the developing world, with an operational focus in Africa. It was founded in memory of Phil Ihunna Jonah who died tragically in September 2008 because there was no functioning oxygen dispensing machine in the university hospital where she had been taken. This stark example of gross medical negligence brought into sharp focus the deplorable state of health care in Nigeria. This organization was therefore borne out of the necessity to do something substantive, meaningful and enduring in order to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in Nigeria and other countries in Africa where the health care system are in bad shape or completely in shambles, and the majority of people lack access to basic health care services.

Malite means to rise up with a purpose in the Igbo language. Together we can rise up to the commitment of providing affordable and acceptable quality access to healthcare in order to save life — because in the final analysis that’s what matters!
